A year ago today I published my first blog post. I was excited to get a few friends and family members to read it. A year later, I have published 98 posts, had original content featured on some amazing websites, been paid to write, and have even started Beyond Your Blog, a resource site for other bloggers looking to get featured on magazine style/aggregate websites and in anthologies. I’ve also figured out Twitter, Pinterest, PicMonkey, WordPress, Hootsuite and a bunch of other tools bloggers are peer pressured into learning.
I’ve met some amazing bloggers who have become my invisible friends, I’ve had my writing accepted into two anthologies, and I’ve written about everything from the asinine things you find on Craigslist, to my cursing preschooler, to struggling as a new mom.
My first ever post was Chicken Decapitation and Bear Poop, about how I started blogging and my husband’s role in my decisions to try it.
My most popular posts this first year were Craigslist Chuckles: Strange And Hilarious Listings (Knoxville, TN) (because when Craigslist is in your titles, it helps your SEO), and a post I did about growing up in my home town called You Know You Grew Up In Warrenton, VA In the 1980s and 1990s If…, that apparently everyone who ever lived in my county read 10 times. A more recent popular post was Playroom Organization For Moms Who Hate Toys, Playing and Pinterest, a quick read with silly photos of how I would like to organize my kids playroom.
If you joined me already in progress and missed them, 3 of my favorite posts on Pecked To Death By Chickens from the last year were:
My goals this year are to work on improving my writing and venture out of my comfort zone, attend and speak at several blogging conferences, submit my writing to more websites and anthologies, offer training on my blogging website and be open to more opportunities that blogging brings. Thanks for reading and hopefully you’ll stick around for another year!
