1. I was so proud of myself when my 20 month old daughter was suddenly interested in the potty. The first day she watched the poo leaving her body and she cried bloody murder everytime we suggested the potty for the next 6 months. I can see how that could be a bit traumatizing…

  2. Is it bad that I don’t even remember potty training? My boys are 29 and 33 now and seem to do just fine but I swear I remember nothing of it. Who knows, maybe they just taught themselves? It all comes out in the end…. 🙂

  3. My first born (son) taught himself over night at around 3 or 3 1/2. My second (daughter) did not until 5. I feared accidents much more than I did changing diapers so I left it up to them.

  4. I’m with you! My first was done at 22 months, my 2nd refuses to go #2 on the potty, and let me tell you…a 3 year old’s poopy diaper is not fun! Good luck and let it be I guess?!

I hear ya. Todays nap time diaper was like a chemical spill. I see what he’s eating and have no idea how it transforms into that.

  5. You are so right that no two kids are the same. My first daughter, it took 3 different failed tries and over 6 months from a little over two to not quite three years old before she was fully trained.

On the other hand, my younger daughter literally took less then a week and she wasn’t even two years old, when she put herself on the toilet for the first time. I went to go look for her and found her clothes strewn through the hall, only to find her on the toilet the first time with my older daughter’s step stool all propped correctly, too.

I had no thoughts of even trying to train her as I shared my first kind of traumatized me to go that route too early or even want to go through that any time soon again.

  6. Oh my goodness potty training sucks!!! It took my oldest over a year. It was hell, he decided one day that he was never going to poop again regardless of diaper or potty. Like ever. And he was true to his word. He could hold it in for days. Seriously, I have PTSD, I swear.

Now my 2 year old wants to use the potty and I’m just not ready for this LOL he can wait until he’s 3 1/2 🙂

Mine are all girls and none of them were easy to potty train, but the youngest two were definitely worse than the first!

  8. There’s a lot of tips and anecdotes out there but really, you know the truth. As you said, each kid is different. With mine, what helped was a cousin who was a year older and so my son got inspired so that they could stand like men around the toilet and pee together. How exciting. (*sigh*) Anyway, good luck and remember, each of us eventually figured things out and none of us are walking around wearing diapers, right? ;-))
